Stephen L. Carter, DDS, MS
Stephen Carter started his long road to becoming an orthodontist by working his way through Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in three years. Next came four years of dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. To become an orthodontic specialist, Dr. Carter attended Washington University in St. Louis and received his Master of Science in Orthodontics, in addition to completing an Advanced Education Certification in Orthodontics.
Dr. Carter has been in the exclusive practice of orthodontics since 1980. He has seen many changes over the years, but his dedication to provide a caring environment and state-of-the-art treatment to each patient has remained.
In an effort to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology and great advances in orthodontic care, Dr. Carter regularly attends numerous training and educational seminars. He was one of the first orthodontists to provide Invisalign® and AcceleDent® in the area. He is also an active member of several organizations, including:

- American Association of Orthodontists
- Colorado Dental Association
- Metropolitan Denver Dental Society
- Colorado Orthodontic Association
Dr. Carter has been honored by his peers by being elected into 5280 Magazine's Top Dentists continuously since it began in 2008. He has also served as board member of the Colorado Summer Meeting for the Advancement of Orthodontic Practice and Research. Dr. Carter also has a strong commitment to social responsibility and takes great pride to give back to the community through charitable efforts like partnering with The Colorado Orthodontic Foundation, Kids In Need of Dentistry (KIND), and Dental Lifeline Network (formerly the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped).
In addition to practicing orthodontics, Dr. Carter has played baseball for most of his life and is currently playing with the Colorado Blues in a local men's senior baseball league. He and his wife have five grown children, two dogs (Tucker and Finn), are ardent Colorado Rockies fans (never missing a home season opener), and love to travel.
